February Wallingford Art Walk: Wednesday, February 6th, 6-9 PM

The Wallingford Art Walk is back! Join us on Wednesday February 6, from 6-9 PM for our first art walk of the new year, along and beyond N 45th Street in beautiful Wallingford.

This is a great time to enjoy the fine artwork in many of our neighborhood businesses, have dinner in one of our top-rated restaurants, relax with a beverage, enjoy a great movie, and end the evening with some terrific music!

University House Wallingford - 4400 Stone Way North (between 44th & 45th St)

The featured artist at University House Wallingford is Thane McCulloh, and there is always an amazing permanent collection of fine art on the walls, Chihuly glass on display and lush landscaping and beauty all around. The Wallingford Art Walk is a great opportunity to enjoy the elegant and inviting ambiance at University House Wallingford.

Caffe Appassionato – 1218 North 45th Street (on Stone Way)

Riveting photos from a recent trip to Africa by Annie Laurie Malarkey as featured in her beautiful “Ghana Life” series, espresso, an outdoor deck, and beer on tap make this a great stop during the Wallingford Art Walk. Annie will be in attendance. Also, tonight is vinyl night, with special guest The Beatles!

Seattle Mosaic Arts – 1325 North 46th Street (between Interlake and Stone Way)

Todd Campbell will be the featured artist for February and March. He has been making mosaics at Seattle Mosaic Arts since the spring of 2011 and his work is inspiring, varied and technically gorgeous. Don’t miss this opportunity to see it.

CMA Gallery – 4501 Interlake Avenue North (at N 46th St)

Enjoy the artwork of Elva Francis. Elva is a 74 year old Seattle resident, who showed talent at an early age but did not begin to seriously study art until after she had raised a family and retired from a long career. She has recently spent several years studying at North Seattle Community College, the Pratt Art Institute and the Mark Miller School of Art. Elva paints in oils, acrylics, water colors and pastels, and enjoys experimenting with a variety of materials and methods. She is currently interested in developing a body of work with an emphasis on abstraction. The paintings that can be seen at the CMA Gallery are inspired by her lengthy stays in Mexico and by other travels with family.

Assistance League of Seattle – 1415 North 45th Street (between Interlake and Woodlawn)

The ALS Thrift Shop will feature “Shelter Art” – art that has been donated to the Thrift Shop – and the sales go to buying new clothes for needy children in the Seattle School District. They will also have empty frames for sale that might be helpful for some visiting artists. The art styles vary and are of various ages. Please show your support!

Chocolati Cafe – 1716 North 45th Street (between Densmore and Wallingford)

Chocolati on 45th street will be featuring art by Jonathan Armstrong. In Jonathan’s collection you will find a variety of techniques, including collages, serigraphs, transfers, and more, which showcase the evolution of his work over time. The artist plans to be in attendance.

Fuel Coffee – 1705 North 45th Street (between Densmore and Wallingford)

Jameson Hubbard’s beautiful woodblock prints will be on display at Fuel Coffee, always committed to perfectly caffeinating each customer with the highest quality coffee.

H&R Block – 1717 North 45th Street (between Densmore and Wallingford)

H&R Block will be hosting Tana Knight as their featured artist.

Wallingford Center – 1815 North 45th Street (at Wallingford)

Yasmín Wisecarver is the featured artist on the bottom floor at Wallingford Center. See her bold, colorful paintings during the Wallingford Art Walk on Wednesday, February 6th, but hurry – Wallingford Center closes at 8:00 PM.

Teahouse Kuan Yin – 1911 North 45th Street (between Burke and Meridian)

Featured artists include Karen Sandy, with her gorgeous chalk, pastel and ebony pencil drawings, and Joseph Lavely, with his beautiful paintings. His works are oil on canvas and serve as allegories for a modern world. In the paintings, we see archetypal characters engaged in fantastic rituals. Something seems uncanny, familiar; this is a deja vu of sorts as what is going on resonates with the underlying forces within us all.

Murphy’s – 1928 North 45th Street (between Burke and Meridian)

Proud sponsor of the Wallingford Art Walk, Seattle’s first Irish pub doesn’t have a featured artist, but it does have cool beer signs, cold beer on tap and tasty grub! Wednesday night is Open Mic, starting at 9 PM (signup at 8 PM)!

Seamonster Lounge – 2202 North 45th Street (between Bagley and Corliss)

Artist Kassandra Morrow presents her paintings of terrific Seamonster Lounge musicians. Have a beverage, enjoy the great music, and try some delicious sushi prepaired by the chefs from Rain! Stick around for an evening of jazz with Jacques Willis & Friends at 10PM, featuring Jacques on vibraphone, Kate Olson on sax, Steve Kim on bass, Paul Fischer on guitar, and Eric Eagle on drums.

Yogurtland Wallingford – 2320 North 45th Street (at Sunnyside)

Proud sponsor of the Wallingford Art Walk! Yogurtland doesn’t have a featured artist, but it’s always a great place to create your own culinary art from their creamy frozen yogurt and delicious toppings. Wine World and Spirits – 400 Northeast 45th Street (between 4th & 5th Ave NE)

Wine World and Spirits will feature the work of Amanda Phipps. Amanda Phipps is a fine artist based out of Seattle. Although she works in many mediums, her primary focus is abstract oil on canvas painting. Her work has been described as modern and graphic with dark undertones. Her paintings utilize depth, dramatic texture and vibrant colors to reflect her state of mind. Every week night from 6-8pm, you can sample beer or wine from all over the world at Wine World and Spirits’ tasting bar, a place to gather, meet new friends and discover your next new favorite. Tonight, enjoy a tasting from Kent Washington’s Airways Brewing Company, featuring local, handcrafted, tasty beers.

Johnston Architects – 100 NE Northlake Way, Suite 200 (between Gasworks Park and Ivar’s Salmon House)

Joan Stuart Ross will be the featured artist at Johnston Architects during the February 6th Wallingford Art Walk, with her show “Peregrination.” Reception 6-8 PM with refreshments, in an informal, stunning office space. Encaustic/collage paintings, including an installation of several from her new series, “Hankies.”

The October Art Walk is the final Art Walk of the 2012 Season here in Wallingford and we’re planning a big, magical, fun send-off! Celebrate the magic and mystery of Autumn with “Night of 1,000 Unicorns – A Night of Art, Music & Magic” on the streets of Wallingford on Wednesday, October 3^rd, from 6-9PM.

The streets of Wallingford have been made magical with the addition of glittering stars, unicorns and lights! Come out tonight in costumes if you like – unicorns, dragons, faeries, magicians and more are welcome!

Among the artists and musicians lending their talents on this magical night will be:

Johnston Architects (100 NE Northlake Way) presents Portraits - A Series by artist Justin Kane Elder. “The painting process involves deconstruction and reassembly. I disassemble an image into basic geometric shapes and then rebuild it with those shapes. Each piece is an additive process formed by amassing different layers of media. Similar to the way a builder constructs a home, the portrait becomes the house built from this process. The final result is a dynamic visual display of color and form.”

At the Wallingford Center (1815 N 45th St.) stage on the patio, the “dynamic duo” of Tallulah Assaf and Sylvia Bates who lead Catch the Cat will perform kid-friendly rock at 5:30PM, Nate Jester – Ace of Illusions will fascinate you at 6:00PM and guitarist and vocalist Jeremy Serwer will make his musical magic at 7:00PM.

Windows Art Gallery (4131 Woodland Park Ave. N) is featuring Tom Talbott’s amazing photos. Tom has spent the past year photographing birds from Northern California to the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. Special guest Valerie Piacenti will be singing with pianist Nick Moore at Window’s Art Gallery at around 7:00 Valerie leads a sound circle at Present Sense and has sung on Broadway and with the Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle and London. Nick is a local arranger/composer and keyboard performer, and was the keyboard chair for the “Almost Live Band.”

KERF Gallery (in Wallingford Center, 1815 N 45th St.)is featuring THE PICTURE SHOW with Paintings by Susan B. Pope and Sheila M. Scott, featuring an artist’s reception Wednesday, October 3, 2012 during the Wallingford Art Walk from 6 to 9 PM. Show runs through October 31.

Susan Pope describes her work: “The process of creating a 3 dimensional illusion on 2 dimensional surface is magical to me. I am attracted to scenes and images in nature that capture, mood, lighting, texture and color so effectively that they transport the viewer to a place or time in their memory.”

Sheila Scott is a Seattle painter with a degree in Fine Art and Secondary Education from the University of Washington. Following a career as graphic artist, illustrator, and calligrapher in San Diego, California, she returned to Seattle and pursued the art of sumi-e, Asian ink painting. For the past five years she has studied shuji (Japanese calligraphy) with sensei Pam Lee to enhance her painting skills in both sumi-e and oils. The discipline and beauty of Asian calligraphy invites her to diligent practice and goal of ‘dancing with brush’.

Tea House Kuan Yin (1911 N 45th St.) is showing the works of Joe Lavely.

CUTZ Meridian (4515 Meridian Ave N) will feature the work of Christopher Thomas Raine, Reverse Glass Artist http://www.chrisraineartgallery.com/

Seattle Mosaic Arts (1325 N 46th St.) is proud to be showing the work of local wonderful mosaic artist, Kelley Knickerbocker. Kelley is an internationally recognized mosaic artist who travels all over the world teaching workshops as well as working on her own fine art and architectural mosaics. We are so lucky to have her in our backyard, to have her teach in our studio (upcoming workshop on Radical Dimensions in Glass Mosaics in October for those of you interested in getting this chance to study with her) and to have her hang her beautiful mosaics on our Gallery Wall! Also, for September even though it wasn’t an official “Art Walk” month, we are showing the stunning and deeply moving works by another local and famous mosaic artist, Jo Braun. Stop by before October to see this work too!

Caffe Appassionato Wallingford (1218 N 45th St.) will be showcasing the paintings of Holly Siberg for Octobers Art Walk. Not only is she a local Wallingford artist, but she is also a barista here at Caffe Appassionato! We are also going to have a special that night with $3 draft beers. Looking forward to another great Artwalk night!

Dandelion Salon (1318 N. 45th St.) will be showing the art and design work of Aimee Rush

H&R Block’s (1717 N 45th St) artist is Tana Knight

Seamonster Lounge (2202 N. 45th St) will feature the photography of Laura Glitter. Also, SHELITA will perform from 7-8:30

CMA Gallery (4501 Interlake Ave N #9) Artist Her current works were produced in the last two years by recycling her older, MFA thesis printed works, originally 8 feet tall. In order to progress to new work, the logical choice is to deconstruct the past work. She selects smaller scale compositions, rework the layers and surfaces by adding pieces, color, materials and making complex incisions.

The Grizzled Wizard (2317 N. 45th St) always features some of the best art in the neighborhood, but they are easy to overlook. For October, it’s Wallingford’s own Richard Lemmert.

For the month of October Chocolati on 45th Street (1716 N 45th St.) will be featuring photographer Daniel Lupastean from Radauti, Romania. Daniel primarily focuses on wild life and portrait photography, and will be featuring an array of his prized pieces in our cafe. Fuel Coffee’s (1705 N 45th St.)October artists are Aaron Winnenberg & Frend. They are having a reception and will be there to meet people.

Blue Star Cafe & Pub (4512 Stone Way N) will feature artist Dan Wend, painter. He will also have a reception during the Art Walk. www.danielwend.com

All City Paint Supply (4112 Stone Way N.) is featuring Live Art with Hera. To see Hera performing her amazing artwork live, visit Uptown Espresso (2300 N. 45th St.) during Art Walk then stroll along the Art Walk path to All City Paint Supply to see her paintings for sale. While Hera is a classically trained artist, her portraits are layered with aerosol (spray) paints. This graffiti art medium she chooses to embrace suits her art form well. The colorful twist on photo realism is something that needs to be witnessed in person.

Be sure to visit KERF International Exhibits right inside Wallingford Center to see their new installation work entitled ”HORIZON LINE OF INFINITY” by Internationally acclaimed artist Willard Thurston Watertight. The Gloria Darlings are a Seattle-based female folk-grass duo. An innovative string band like nothing you’ve seen or heard, they sing bright, vibrant, vocal harmonies to outstanding instrumentation including fiddle, guitar, banjo, and mountain dulcimer. Often called sirens, their catchy original tunes get every crowd smiling, singing along, and toe tapping. Their deep well of repertoire is full of original tunes, traditionals, and folksy renditions of popular song.

Smokey Delights will be grilling hamburgers and hot dogs, and preparing homemade desserts. Root beer will be supplied by Walgreens. There will be face-painting, balloons, and more!

Shelita’s music can be described as a rhythmically driving ballad-oriented, folk-meets-soul progressive sound. She started playing in public in 2006 in the Seattle area, and has become a de-facto star of Seamonster’s Monday night open-mic. Enjoy Shelita’s performance while gazing at Casey Brook Bush’s iconic rock images.

This Neoacoustifunk Hip Hop Duo is made up of one part Nate B. and one part Annie J. Nate, on guitar and vocals, and Annie, on flute and vocals, are devout choir nerds with a dedication to tight harmonies, pleasing melodies, and solid rhythm. With a wide variety of styles, their music ranges from original rap battles to B52’s-style rock, soulful ballads to fist pumpin’ bangers, and uniquely arranged covers you never thought you’d hear again. It all happens in the outdoor beer garden, with $1 off beer and wine all night, while inside, you can enjoy the paintings of Holly Siburg.

All City Paint Supply The artist we are featuring for August is Zachary Bohnencamp. We will not be conducting live painting at our store this time around because things got slightly out of hand last time. Usually, our neighbor, Kuma Coffee stays Open and provides a free urn of coffee for our visitors.

Zachary Bohnenkamp – Printmaker/Muralist. Zach was born beside the railroad tracks in Iowa City. He spent most of his childhood in a tunnel beneath the very tracks upon which his first blood spilled. An adventurer by birth rite, he first reached the Gulf of México at age 7 on a raft he fashioned from lilac branches. For the last 12 years Zach has called Seattle home but the rich black soil of his homeland still remains between his toes, where morel mushroom grow to this day.He is currently printing out of Print Zero Studios in Georgetown and making murals with the crew Matamuros in Seattle.

Assistance League of Seattle: Thrift Shop to feature “Shelter Art” Most art ends up homeless through no fault of its own—”moving” and “refurbishing” are the top reasons people give for relinquishing their art. Art adopted from thrift shops typically cost less than art purchased through galleries—once you add in the cost of other “extras” including matting and framing, you’ll probably be surprised what a bargain an adopted art really is! Come in and explore our collection of abandoned art looking for a new and loving home.

Blue Star Cafe and Pub will be featuring two artists this month, Diana Aurigemma and Linda White.

Diana Aurigemma -”My frequent travels, offer me a continuous source of inspiration. The subjects for my ‘plein air’ paintings evolve from a combination of what I see and what I feel. Linda White – a collage artist who creates amazingly realistic landscapes with bits of textured paper. Many of Linda’s pieces are inspired by places she’s explored while hiking in and around Washington.

Caffé Appassionato will host musicians Bucket of Honey at the Wednesday, August 1st Wallingford Art Walk, from 8:00 – 9:00 PM. They will bring bucket loads of sweet music, fun and excitement to 45th & Stone Way! Bucket of Honey has spent the last two years growing and honing these skills. Having completed their first EP, “Easy to Swallow,” they are gearing up for their first full album due early 2012 entitled, “Songs We Wrote for Something Else.” This album will feature tracks the band wrote for theater and film as well as song writing competitions and showcases.www.bucketofhoney.com

Johnston Architects will be featuring photographs by Melanie Masson in a captivating series called “Passage”.

“Passage” is a survey of leading lines on the American landscape. Every glacier, wheel, and footfall that carved these lines bore a purpose, the sheer repetition branding a deeper promise of worth into the soil. Following these pathways, which by nature branch one to another, similarly connect us to past travelers while guiding us toward the futures we seek – each generation driven by the same prospects as the one before: change, destination, hopes we intend to plant at the end of the lines.

Kerf Gallery will have a new installation work entitled ” HORIZON LINE OF INFINITY” by Willard Thurston Watertight opening Wednesday evening for the art walk. Two years ago he did a large installation entitled “EMERALD TABLET COMMUNIQUE” Watertight has shown internationally but not known locally. Should be an interesting experience at the Kerf GALLERY

KeyBank will be displaying the art work of Shane S. Leopard on August 1st. Shane has been painting as a hobby through-out his life and on display will be the paintings he has hanging in his home and office. He has taken classes at NSCC. Shane manages apartments on Lake Union and is anear-by resident. Along with his art work, Shane plays in a local “Rock Band” called Capitol Thrill.

Seattle Mosaic Arts For August we are excited to be showing the work from our very own Brad Scelfo. His artist bio is below:

Brad Scelfo – Ceramic Sculptor

Brad lives in Seattle, Washington with his partner Alan and pursues his career as an emerging young artist. His studio is based in Everett, Washington where he is part of a large artist collaborative along with many other professional artists. His work focuses on decorative hand-built vessels using both clay and glass, which is influenced by his love of nature and travel. Since his move to Seattle, Brad has worked at Seattle Mosaic Arts as a Studio Assistant and he has found a new love for mosaics and is going to continue experimenting with them in his own work. Brad is represented by Artforte Gallery in Seattle, Washington and The Timmel Collection in Saugatuck, Michigan, where he will continue to show work year round.

Wine World & Spirits Kristen Winn will be our featured artist. Kristen is a transplant from Alaska, lover of music, and obsessed with light and color. She draws inspiration from the oddness of people, music, the outdoors, jameson and traveling. A few of the artists she greatly admires: Egon Schiele, Hundertwasser, Lucian Freud, Wiley of Non Sequitur, and Shel Silverstein – local artists Eva Isaksen, Frida Clements, and Matthew Porter. Besides her new art that she will be hanging at Wine World for the Art Walk, Kristen’s whimsical portraits of Washington Winemakers, such as Bob Beitz, Charles Smith, and Rick Small as well as Wine World’s Founder and GM David LeClaire, are on long term loan to Wine World for their Wine Gallery. Commissions are greatly welcome.

Come enjoy Kristen’s art as you sip the nightly selection of wines from Wine World’s Tasting Bar.
