Fuel will host a reception for Roy Powell whose paintings enliven our walls this month. Powell has worked as an artist in Seattle since graduating from Seattle University in 2006. His work focuses on memory, loss, heroism, and presenting digital work in an analog painting form. Powell is a co-founder of Local 1520, a painting, drawing, and printmaking workspace on Capitol Hill.
For June, KeyBank Wallingford celebrates its first anniversary of being in the Wallingford neighborhood. We will be serving up refreshments and introducing our Featured Artist, Charles Moss, Jr. His work “peers through the veil of a personal psyche upon a marred landscape, culpability residing everywhere.He received his BFA in Comprehensive Design from James Madison University. He was accepted into the Rhode Island School of Design to study architecture, but due to a scholarship and other financial concerns attended The Catholic University of America. In addition to his studio art practice, he has worked as an architectural designer, art director in film, mural artist and art instructor.
Johnston Architects : Seattle artist Lisa Snow Lady has a BA in Art History and a BFA in painting from the University of Washington and has been a practicing artist for over 25 years. Employment as a graphic designer for 15 of these years contributed to her proficiency in layout and design and her ability to interact with clients to serve a variety of print media needs. Lisa’s interest in botanical forms and recent education in ornamental horticulture inspire her mixed process paintings. In these works she layers paper, ink and paper to express fleeting beauty and renewal. Her love of travel has taken her throughout western Europe with an extended stay in Holland where she studied the relationship between the arts and Christianity. She is inspired by the richness of Turkey and the natural beauty of to the Hawaiian Islands and yet finds inspiration in the sea and surroundings of her native Pacific Northwest. With watercolor she enjoys capturing landscape and architecture in a fresh and spontaneous way, later turning these sketches into acrylic paintings in her studio.
Lisa exhibits widely in solo, group and juried shows and is represented by SAM Gallery Rentals and Sales in Seattle, Museo in Langley, Washington, and Gallatin River Gallery in Montana. Lisa’s work is in the collections of Swedish Hospital, the University of Washington Medical Center, Evergreen Hospital and Safeco Corporation. Her art has twice been featured on the cover of theUniversity of Washington Botanic Gardens Bulletin and recently was selected for theArtist Series Label at Woodward Canyon Winery in Walla Walla, Washington.
Here’s her little blurb: My love of botanical form and education in ornamental horticulture inform my paintings and mixed media prints. In these works of richly textured layers of paper, ink and paint, flora serves as a metaphor for hope, rebirth, and renewal. Recent travels to Turkey, as well as a self-directed artist residency at Centrum in Port Townsend, Washington, have rekindled my interest in sense of place and a desire to explore landscape and architecture as well as botanical themes.

Assistance League Thrift Shop featured artist: Patricia Cook
Now 83 years old, Patricia finds watercolor a challenging medium. She especially enjoys the opportunity to create an “atmospheric effect”, as reflected in the widely varied scenery and seasons of Southern Ontario. In her European travels, Patricia was inspired to joyfully paint Portugal’s brilliant contrasting colors and local crafts, and France’s colorful history! Stop by the Assistance League Thrift Shop to view six of Patricia’s wonderful landscapes. Each 16 x 20 matted and framed original watercolor may be acquired for $95.
Wine World & Spirits featured artist: Miska
Miska was born Emily Salemann, a child of immigrants with German, Russian, and Yugoslavian heritage. Miska attended the University ofWashington Art School but is mostly a self taught painter, studying the works of the great modern masters daily. Miska has thus far been incrediblysuccessful. Her paintings are colorful and expressive. The blend of a Roman Catholic and Russian Greek Orthodox religious upbringing has manifested itself in her highly successful series of Madonna icons. Objective viewers find Asian,Latin, and even Native American features in her figures. Nevertheless, Miskacalls these figures her “one race” people. When told that her paintings are very “Picasso like”, she replies that her paintings are”happier” and her figures more recognizable. She uses gold, bronze,copper and pearl tones in her works that gives them an amazing reflectivequality. Her work is also rich in symbolism. Umbrellas, which are very common in her work, are symbols of the ‘shelter’ she talks about as well as symbolizing the northwest climate. The round circles found on the faces and chests of her figures are symbols of the blush of love and happiness. Flowers,water, mountains and the sun or the moon reflect her love of nature, not to mention her second love after painting…gardening! Her paintings also illustrate that she loves children, families, music and of course, coffee like most Seattle area natives do.
In August 2000, Miska was chosen by US Art magazine as one of 25 prominent artists to be featured and calls her an emerging success. Her painting, “Green Eyed Icon”, featured in the article, has since gained much attention. As one of her many Madonna icons, this work exemplifies the vibrance and color of her paintings, ultimately a symbol of love and happiness. Miska’s work has been gracing the walls at Wine World since the store opened in Dec. 2010. She is their featured artist for June’sWallingford Art Walk.

CPR Seattle : Leigh Pate is our artist for June/July. She is a writer and photographer in Seattle, Washington. She takes regular sanity breaks from work as a political and public affairs consultant to travel by bicycle, write and share photographs of those journeys. Leigh got off the couch in 2006 and completed her first 100 mile bike ride for charity. Since then she has cycled across the US and Vietnam, completed triathlons and half marathons and believes the best life experiences combine physical challenges, culture and adventure. Her most recent adventure was cycling 4000 kilometer through India in 2011. A story on Leigh’s India adventure was published at GreatOutdoors.com. She has been the keynote speaker to benefit non-profit organizations in the US and Canada. Her photography is shown at numerous art venues around Seattle. Keller Williams Greater Seattle will be featuring the art of 18 year old student Kelsey Giosso. Kelsey will be showcasing a variety of medium with an emphasis on watercolor.
Chocolati Cafe on 45th will be displaying images of the Northwest by photographer, Brian David Casey. Brian combines the precision of his engineering background with his creative talents to deliver vivid and dramatic scenes from around the Puget Sound area and beyond.”

The StuStuStudio, home of Dotted Line, will be open for Artwalk from 6-11pm next month. In addition to hand crafted one-of-a-kind jewelry, we’ll be showing a photo exhibit by local artist and nature enthusiast, Michael Verner. Drinks and snacks will be in full force! The Stu is located at 1216 N 40th St., just next to Pagliacci Pizza, across from 7-11. Depending on how many people show up, our doors will often stay open until midnight. So if you are looking for the after-after party, come on down! 
Creative Music Adventures Gallery ‘Carole d’Inverno is represented in Seattle, by Fetherston Gallery, and SAM Rental Gallery, and in New York by Tria Gallery.’ As an artist, I have many influences to garner from: architecture, chemistry, story telling, nature, etc. Growing up in Europe, I was surrounded by old architecture and watched how time transforms and impacts all man made things. Surfaces are distressed and colors are broken up in random patterns. Memory has distilled those images and now it all resurfaces in my work. I have been living in the North West for the last 23 years, and I have come to love how the weather covers and at the same time reveals the lusciousness of nature. Here nature continuously and mysteriously transforms itself. From my studio window I can look at the constant rearranging. It seeps into my work. It’s all alchemy to me.
Seattle Mosaic Arts will be hosting it’s annual Members Show. It is a great opportunity to see some the amazing and diverse mosaics coming out of our studio.

Through my art I try to create memorable images that ’work’. I enjoy the discipline and tradition of a representational painting style.” I am an artist from the Pacific Northwest and specialize in seascape portraits of this beautiful area, as well as elegant Floral work and vibrant, colorful still life. I also am a pet portrait specialist and that work can be seen at AnimalZonePetPortraits.blogspot.com. I was educated in Utah, California and Washington State where I now reside and work out of my studio in Lynnwood. I am the recipient of several awards and have twice been featured as a cover artist for Signature Magazine for the Arts. Both private and corporate clients collect my art. I offer affordable art painted in a traditional style. I also participate regularly in art walks in Edmonds and other communities. I offer comprehensive art classes in my studio for children and adults, beginners and intermediate students. I happily say that my goal is to recreate the beauty that I observe and share that vision with other. If my art makes you happy, then I feel I’ve accomplished my goal.

Fremont Midwifery’s artist is Sarah Bylsma. Having grown up in the Pacific Northwest my artwork comes largely out of stories and imagery from this wild, wooded land. Legends and animals from other northern countries also contribute to this theme, along with religious symbolism and underpinning. Repetition and patterns are also a key element in my paintings. I think this has likely been a cross-pollination from my work as a graphic designer.
Dandelion Salon’s artist is Laura Cameron. Combining personal iconography and universal mythology in various mediums, Laura’s paintings are portals for the contemplative spirit. Most recently she has been focusing on paintings that evoke the re-emergence of the Sacred Feminine. Humanity is experiencing the reawakening of the Goddess in every aspect of life and on a global scale: from eruptions in nature to societal transformation. Much of the Goddess imagery is gleaned from ancient mythology and still has resonance for today as an archetypal force and guidepost to Transformation.
